I finally finished the chair on this one. I am going to go back to the simpler busts from here on out. I want to be getting more of these done. Remember if you have any requests just let me know.

I finished the paint job on him today and am planning to make the chair he sits in to go along with it.

I started working on a full bodied sculpture of the X-Static's Mr. Sensitive taken from a page from the comic that i did my own version of a while back on my DDSKETCHBOOK blog.
This is my first time using the Sculpy Firm and it is just that FFFFIIIRRRMMM!!! Although it is harder to work with in terms of getting added pieces to blend in with the rest of the sculpture it is easier because it gives less when you are other parts and happen to hold or touch another section of it.
This sculpture is going pretty well...and i plan on making the chair he is sitting on as well for the finished piece.

I finished sanding this one down...or got to a point where i thought to best to stop before nothing was left. That's the drawback to really working it over with my dremel tool instead of working everything out before the bake...i was feeling a little bit discouraged with this one (this being my first female character and all) until i started my first layers of paint...let me know what you think.

I started work a sculpture of Harley Quinn tonight...the first off a list of suggestions from Marcos who runs the PCP comic book store of characters that would sell immediately...so i am going to work off that list one by one to get on the shelves there.

I put my latest sculpture into the oven late last night and started fine tuning him today with a bit of sanding and working over with my dremel drill...here's where i am at.

So i am finally getting around to finishing this one up...there were more than a few attempts at getting his cloak to look right. The one i have on now is getting there but more work will be done on it after i get it in the oven. I am going to talk to Donnie to see how he likes it...then go from there.

This is a character from Donnie Juengling"s comic.Here was pretty open to my interpretation, letting do whatever i felt based on the artwork he provided.

...the hair turned out to be pretty tedious but i got the hang of it after a few experiments.

I have been working on this commission for a few day now. Fresh from the oven...i am going to do a little sanding and refining before i start on the paint. I am really happy with how this one is going. Two things really worried me going in...the hat and the glasses...which totally make "The Rose" so cool. I thought i pulled both of these items off pretty well if i do say so myself...can't wait to get it painted...which i think is my favorite part of the process....i fine tuned the hat and went to the art store to pick up a thicker wire for the glasses that ended up working out quite nicely for it.

I was really in a Madman kind of mood and wanted to do a sculpture in that vein...the funnest character i though would be Mr. Gum from The Atomics! I was really happy with the way it turned out and posted it up on Mike Allred's message board where he said (quote) "Very Nice!"

...about half way through on the paint job for Lurotiman...man do i love painting on the red L's throughout his uniform. This one should be done by tomorrow.

I am about half way through at this point of finishing what i set out to do which was (for those of you into mission statements) to sculpt all my main characters. I started painting them over the weekend.
It is also getting a little cooler here where i live that always puts me in a better mood to produce art.

I got the other three baked as well as the Swamp Thing late last night. Then I started in on Romeo Death!..which i am about 80% done with...the ski-mask is proving quite difficult. I went with actually sculpting the face then put a thin layer of clay as the actual mask. It is hard to get the holes in the mask right but i think i should be getting it figured out by tonight.

I might smooth over the groves in the mask and do them over...but other than that i am pretty happy with how it turned out...Romeo was my hardest one thus far for sure...two more to go!
...and here it is after i smoothed the mask over and redrew the grooves.

Finished up the Metroman and now i started in on the Lurotiman.

I got most of the work done on my Moreman and started in on the detailing on the Metroman one. That leaves...Lurotiman, Romeo Death, and The Blue Levidian. I cant wait to have another Con to go to or store signing where i can have all these displayed.

Here are a few shots i took of the Moreman scuplture as it started taking shape. The cool thing about working with Sculpy clay is that it never dries out on you so you can take as long as you want with it...also when you are finished with it you can bake it in a regular oven to make it hard.

I started on a few sculptures for the characters in Cartown Comics...i plan on doing one for all the characters that i create....after i get my characters done i am going to start taking on commissions of busts for whatever character you like....I am thinking $25.00 each...would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I have been really getting into my sculpting here lately so I wanted to start a new blog for it to chart my progress for it. My Cartown Comics blog was getting bogged down with them and they didn't really fit there.I am going to systematically transfer all the sculpting posts from there to here.
